The trip
FlyingFox is organizing a Mongolian Safari from 19th – 28th May, 2025, in Northern Mongolia, near Lake Khövsgöl. The journey starts and ends in Ulaanbaatar. If you enjoy wildlife, local culture, ethnic cuisine, and spartan conditions, this trip is for you.
With FlyingFox Mongolia Safari Adventure, you will go on a 10-day tour driving a Toyota Land Cruiser through Ulaanbaatar, Khatgal (Lake Khövsgöl), Murun, Khalban (Lake Tunamal), Tosontsengel, and Tsetserleg in Mongolia. The 10-day Safari Adventure includes accommodation in 4 or 5-star hotels as well as yurts, experienced guides, food, transportation, and much more.
You must be in Ulaanbaatar on May 19, 2025, as we will meet with the group at the hotel reception. The name of the hotel will be revealed later.
The safari will cover approximately 2,300 km over the course of 10 days, with a maximum distance of 200 km/day.
The actual length of the trip may vary depending on the weather conditions.
During the 10-day Safari Adventure, we will have the opportunity to visit Lake Khövsgöl, one of the finest and most pristine bodies of water in all of Asia, see the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, visit various nature parks and valleys, explore local nomad villages, see wild horses and camels, stay in yurts, try local food such as kumis, a fermented dairy product traditionally made from mare or donkey milk, and experience Ulaanbaatar.
What to expect
Nomadism has deep roots in Mongolia: various nomadic empires controlled these lands until 1206 when Genghis Khan and his legendary mounted warriors rode across the steppe to create the Mongol Empire, the largest land empire in history. Today, 97% of Mongolia’s population is still nomadic or semi-nomadic, living in traditional gers or yurts and herding yaks to survive. Horses remain as important to the local culture as ever.
There is only 2,244 km of paved roads in all of Mongolia, so touring here means going off-road for most of the journey. The main reason for traveling with FlyingFox is to get to know the local culture, meet and experience the life of local nomads, and marvel at the vast and beautiful nature.
